I'm RUNNING in the LA MARATHON!

On March 9th, I'll be going and going and going from Dodger Stadium to Santa Monica on foot! Why?? Well...................

Late last year, my aunt sent me an email asking if I wanted to participate in a charity 5K benefiting a cause that my family holds near and dear to our hearts. Of course I'm game for a 5K so I clicked on the link to register and saw that this run would be the opening act for a marathon...not just any marathon, but the LA MARATHON! I didn't give 26.2 miles a second thought so I clicked further and saw that there would be a marathon RELAY option...13.1 miles each sounded challenging but doable! So I started to think of what loved one would be willing to do this with me. The Answer: My sister-in-law, Annie Godoy, of course! 

So here we are...about a month before the race. While we're attempting to prepare ourselves physically, we're also attempting to fulfill our fundraising obligation...We've set our fundraising goal at $5K, the initial distance I was willing to run...Please read below and consider supporting us! FACT: NATIONWIDE, 18 PEOPLE DIE EACH DAY AWAITING A LIFE-SAVING ORGAN TRANSPLANT.

In 2008, my dad, SAL GODOY, was one of them. He passed away awaiting a transplant after a seven-year battle with NASH, an end-stage non-alcoholic liver disease.

In his memory, my sister-in-law and I will be running the ASICS LOS ANGELES MARATHON RELAY as part of the ONE LEGACY FOUNDATION TEAM. We will each run 13.1 miles to honor my dad’s legacy and to support the foundation’s mission to save and heal lives by inspiring and advancing donation and transplantation through research, public education, and honoring donors whose legacies live on.

A single organ donor has the power to save 8 lives and a single tissue donor has the chance to enhance up to 50 lives. According to USA Today, as of 2010, CA had one of the lowest organ donation registration rates. Let's change that! It is our personal goal to ensure that everyone we know is registered to be a donor.
